Matt Carmody advises founders, executives, and leadership teams on corporate, commercial, and transactional matters. He works with clients both as outside counsel and in fractional General Counsel capacities, providing practical guidance on corporate governance, financings, M&A, commercial agreements, and the day-to-day legal needs of growing businesses.

His clients include fintech and financial services companies, technology and SaaS businesses, media and entertainment companies, venture funds and investment vehicles, and emerging growth companies across a range of sectors.Before joining Group Five Legal, Matt spent nearly a decade at major international law firms in New York, Los Angeles, and Australia, where he represented companies, investors, and financial institutions in cross-border M&A, private financings, capital markets transactions, restructurings, and complex commercial and licensing arrangements. He also has in-house experience as embedded commercial counsel at a national bank, advising on bank-fintech partnership agreements, vendor contracting, and third-party risk management.

Matt received his Bachelor of Laws with Honors from The University of Notre Dame Australia, and holds a Master of International Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Western Australia. He is admitted to practice in California and New York. Matt grew up in Perth, Australia, and now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.
